Welcome to the GI-INDEED e-learning platformThis is the GI-INDEED Learning Management System (LMS), working as an electronic classroom for education in Geo-Information for Environmental Decision-making. Such training contents form the GI-INDEED Training Package, which is at its turn divided into the four modules listed and described in the following:
Module 1: GI web services
This module focuses on how to build GI web services and gives an overview on relevant standards, specifications and solutions for web services.
Module 2: Spatial Data Infrastructures
This module focuses on how to build spatial data infrastructures (SDI), a key objective of which is to make available more and better local, national and global spatial data. It is considered both how to produce and how to get access to harmonized geographic data. Apart from technical issues, organizational and legal aspects are also covered. These topics provide the basis for understanding the architectures and technical aspects of interoperable web applications described in the other modules.
Module 3: Use of SDI for protected areas
The module focuses on the implementation and use of Spatial Data Infrastructure for Protected Areas management. The objective is to give an overview of Protected Area policies and management tools at European and national level, as well as of relevant standards, specifications and existing solutions to use and share harmonized geographic data for nature conservation.
Module 4: Use of SDI for coastal areas
This module focuses on the implementation of SDI's for coastal areas. Its aim is to provide an introduction to the use of geo-information in Integrated Coastal Area Management, to suggest solutions to provide and coherently utilise harmonised geo-data for coastal analysis, planning and management, to lead the project audience to develop a practical exercise for web-publishing of coastal geo-data.
